Moon Insoo
Moon Insoo is a prominent South Korean sculptor known for his distinctive sculptural language utilizing industrial materials such as iron and cement. Having graduated from Seoul Arts High School and earning both his B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Sculpture from Hongik University, Moon has established himself as a vital figure in contemporary Korean sculpture.
His work stands out for its modern sensibility and fearless exploration of material limits. In 1986, he made a powerful impact on the Korean art scene by winning the Grand Prize at the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea with Jipryul (Collection of Rhythms), a groundbreaking piece combining cement and iron. He further solidified his critical acclaim by receiving the Total Museum Award and the Kim Se-choong Young Sculptor Award.
Moon's sculptures go beyond simple representation; through the heavy textures and raw energy of metal and cement, his works metaphorically convey the essence of human existence and vitality. Exhibiting internationally—including a solo exhibition invited by the French Ministry of Culture in Paris—Moon continues to expand the horizons of contemporary Korean sculpture.
