Bori Yoon is a Korean contemporary artist whose practice examines the relationship between language and image, narrative and visual form through the deconstruction and reconfiguration of printed text. Working primarily with materials collected from magazines, newspapers, and other forms of print media, she has developed a distinct visual language in which the textual structures of everyday communication are transformed into pictorial compositions.

Her process involves cutting printed texts into narrow strips and repeatedly arranging and layering these fragments across the canvas. Removed from their original contexts, words and passages gradually relinquish their linguistic functions, becoming visual elements defined by color, line, and texture. Through this transformation, the material properties of printed matter intersect with the compositional principles of painting, while individual fragments establish the density and rhythm of the pictorial surface.

In earlier works, including the Shinguhwado series, Yoon brought together traditional pictorial imagery and contemporary printed materials, juxtaposing distinct systems of visual representation. Her subsequent series, including Space, Run, and Weaving a Story-flower, extend this approach through increasingly intricate arrangements of textual fragments. Images and chromatic elements drawn from printed media are subjected to processes of fragmentation and reconstruction, generating visual structures that depart from their original narratives.

While Yoon's practice engages with the methods of appropriation and recontextualization associated with collage, it is distinguished by her treatment of printed language as a material component of painting. The tension between linguistic meaning and the autonomy of the image is articulated through repetitive processes of cutting and assembly, while accumulated layers of paper introduce a physical dimension to the pictorial surface.

By reducing printed language to material fragments and reorganizing them into new visual configurations, Yoon's work engages with the shifting boundaries between media and the conventions of representation within contemporary visual culture. The relationship between text and image, narrative and abstraction remains a sustained concern throughout her practice.
